Dyson Gen5detect filters and battery

These fit

A 972126-03 HEPA filter, a 972352-01 cartridge filter and a 972382-03 or 972382-04 battery. The battery depends on which Gen5detect you have.

Finding the model number

It's worth a look at the rating plate first, because names get reused across generations. The serial number is on a rating plate on the machine. On the V6 and DC59 it's on the main body behind the clear bin, as it is on the V8 Cyclone. The V7 and V11 have it on the base instead, and so do most of the newer sticks. You'll find separate serial numbers on the battery and charger, and typing the machine's serial into Dyson's spare-parts pages brings up the right parts.

When to change them

Wash the filter at least once a month; the screen gives filter alerts. Dry fully before refitting. (source)

Washable filters go back in bone dry or not at all. A damp one smells, and on some machines it can let the motor pull moisture through.

A battery doesn't die overnight. The run time on a full charge shrinks month by month, and once it won't get you round the house it's time for a new one.

If it cuts out with charge left, look for a blockage in the wand or filter before you blame the battery. A clogged machine can stop just like a flat one.
