When to change them

Only one washable filter. Wash in cold water at least once a month (more often with fine dust); leave to dry for at least 24 hours. (source)

Only rinse a filter the maker says is washable, and let it dry right through before it goes back in. Most of the "it smells" complaints start with a damp filter.

You'll know the battery's going when a full charge stops lasting a whole clean. It happens slowly and creeps up on you.

Cutting out early isn't always the battery. A blocked filter or wand can do the same, and clearing it costs nothing.
