Finding the model number

Check the plate before you buy anything: a Numatic name on the box can cover more than one version. On the drum-shaped Henry family (Henry itself plus Hetty and Harry) the rating label sits under the carry handle, though some have it on the back of the top section (the hat). James and Charles have it on the back of the machine, and so does George. On the Quick models it's inside the drum. The label shows the model and power rating, plus a serial number that starts with the year and week.

When to change them

A bag lasts up to about a month with average use; change it when the machine feels heavy or suction drops. Check the bag often. The TriTex/MicroFresh filter is not washable: tap or shake the dust off instead. (source)

Don't judge a bag by how full it looks. Fine dust clogs the paper or fleece long before it's packed, and suction drops off with it. Trust the indicator over your eyes.

If the indicator says full with a nearly empty bag, look for a blockage in the hose or floorhead before you swap it.

Only rinse a filter the maker says is washable, and let it dry right through before it goes back in. Most of the "it smells" complaints start with a damp filter.
