Finding the model number
It's worth a look at the rating plate first, because names get reused across generations. Vax puts the rating label on a white or silver sticker on the back of the machine or underneath it. The model number is a mix of letters and numbers such as U84-AL-Pe or UCA1GEV1, and the serial number is 21 digits long.

When to change them
Pre-motor filter: tap out the dust, rinse under the tap with no detergent, leave 24 hours to air dry. Post-motor filter: knock out debris; do not wash, replace it if badly discoloured. No set interval given. (source)
Washable filters go back in bone dry or not at all. A damp one smells, and on some machines it can let the motor pull moisture through.
